Global pharma and laboratory solutions to Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors are poised for enhanced international collaboration and technological growth with the upcoming AMPTECH Sri Lanka – Pharma & Lab Expo 2026. The event will take place from December 18-20 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo.

AMPTECH Sri Lanka 2026 – Pharma & Lab Expo is set to bring international manufacturing technologies, laboratory solutions and industry expertise to the country, creating opportunities for local businesses to improve production capacity and establish new partnerships.

Organised by Exhiconect Media Private Limited, the event will mark the company’s entry into the Sri Lankan market, connecting international equipment manufacturers, technology providers and chemical suppliers with local pharmaceutical producers, healthcare providers, research institutions and other industry stakeholders.

The exhibition was officially announced at a Networking and Business Meet hosted at The Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo. The gathering brought together representatives of the local pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, international technology companies and trade organisations to discuss opportunities for strengthening Sri Lanka’s manufacturing and laboratory infrastructure.

The roadshow was conducted under the theme “Connect | Collaborate | Grow – Bringing Global Pharma & Laboratory Solutions to Sri Lanka.” Discussions highlighted the growing importance of technological modernisation, laboratory development and automated manufacturing processes in building a stronger domestic pharmaceutical industry.

Speaking at the event, Jayasiri Wickremasinghe, head of a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing company, emphasised the need for Sri Lanka to substantially increase its local production of medicines. He said the country should aim to manufacture 80% of its pharmaceutical requirements domestically, compared with the approximately 20% currently supplied by its 23 local pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Wickremasinghe acknowledged that reaching this target would require considerable progress in developing the wider pharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystem. However, he pointed out that the sector offered significant opportunities for expansion and that sustained investment and closer cooperation among industry participants would be essential to achieving meaningful growth.

He described the development of a comprehensive pharmaceutical ecosystem as a priority and welcomed the introduction of AMPTECH Sri Lanka, noting that an exhibition connecting manufacturers, suppliers and technology providers would help address an important gap in the industry. He also expressed hope that the event would become an annual fixture and contribute to the continued advancement of local pharmaceutical production.

Sri Lanka’s drive to strengthen domestic manufacturing is also reflected in the Government’s National Medicinal Drug Policy 2026-2030, which places importance on efficient local production of essential medicines while maintaining standards of quality, safety and affordability. Greater access to advanced machinery, specialised raw materials and international technical expertise could help local manufacturers improve their operations and work towards meeting a larger share of national demand.

Chirag Solanki, Director of Exhiconect Media Private Limited, said the exhibition was being introduced to help Sri Lankan industry participants access international technologies and establish direct connections with overseas suppliers. He noted that the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors were entering a significant period of development, with growing attention being paid to local self-reliance, more efficient supply chains and compliance with international quality requirements.

Solanki added that Sri Lankan pharmaceutical manufacturers could gain considerable value from the forthcoming exhibition and conference focused on drug-manufacturing machinery and laboratory equipment. By bringing together technology providers and local decision-makers, the event is intended to support technical collaboration, facilitate technology transfer and help businesses identify suitable solutions for upgrading their manufacturing capabilities.

The exhibition will cover a broad range of equipment, materials and technologies relevant to pharmaceutical production and laboratory operations. Pharmaceutical manufacturing machinery, automated production systems, formulation equipment, processing technologies and cleanroom solutions will form part of the showcase.

Laboratory-related exhibits will include analytical instruments, testing equipment and technologies supporting research and development (R&D). The event will also feature pharmaceutical packaging machinery, specialised packaging materials, raw materials, bulk chemicals and laboratory chemicals, giving local companies access to a wider range of products and potential suppliers.

These technologies and solutions are expected to help industry participants assess new production methods, improve operational efficiency, enhance testing capabilities and strengthen quality-control procedures. The exhibition will also provide an opportunity for businesses to explore equipment and materials that can support the development and modernisation of local manufacturing facilities.

In addition to showcasing products, AMPTECH Sri Lanka 2026 will place emphasis on business networking and commercial engagement. Organised business-to-business (B2B) matchmaking, direct sourcing opportunities and technical discussions are expected to bring Sri Lankan companies into closer contact with international manufacturers and suppliers. Such interactions could encourage new commercial relationships, support knowledge exchange and create opportunities for investment and technology adoption.

The event has secured support from several regional trade organisations and international partners. MSB Chemical Limited, known as the “House of Ethanol,” has been named the official sponsor, while Logipharma will serve as the official logistics and freight forwarding partner. Point Five Events is also involved in supporting the initiative, together with the SMAU International Industry & Trade Chambers and SHEA.

Exhiconect Media Private Limited organises specialised trade exhibitions and is known for its AMPTECH India series, which operates across major pharmaceutical manufacturing centres. Through its exhibitions, the company brings together manufacturers, buyers, technology partners and regulatory stakeholders in emerging Asian markets, with the aim of encouraging industrial development and international trade.

With its Colombo debut, AMPTECH Sri Lanka 2026 seeks to establish a dedicated platform for the pharmaceutical manufacturing and laboratory sectors to engage with global suppliers, evaluate emerging technologies and develop business partnerships. The initiative is intended to support the modernisation of local industry, encourage investment in manufacturing infrastructure and contribute to Sri Lanka’s longer-term objective of producing a greater proportion of its pharmaceutical requirements within the country.
